PHOTOSHOP PROMy name is Stewart Hartsfield and I'm a freelance artist. I've been using Adobe Photoshop® for about 20 years - since its release in 1989 - so by now, I'm pretty good with it. I've been commercially serving the visual needs of companies & individuals since the early '90s. In addition to working as an illustrator & retoucher, I've taught courses and workshops on the program for a variety of educational institutions. I use the latest version. I reliably provide an Agency Standard level of retouching, illustration and compositing work. My rates are reasonable. The quality of the work is excellent. Estimates are free. I really enjoy challenges like those shown in the visual examples below. I'll undertake anything, from eliminating distracting reflections in a computer-generated image (A), to diminishing unwanted physical attributes in the photo's subjects (B), to removing unwanted people or elements altogether (C), to repairing and restoring old or damaged images (D), and I'm open to the uniquely specific requirements of your project. Contact me to put my skills to work on your current needs. You'll be pleased the results, and with my professionalism in achieving them. And you'll be back when the next project comes around.

This internal marketing project generated a hybrid illustration; the final file was initially created as a ray-traced synthetic form, then retouched to remove distracting reflections of letters where they interfered with readability or were extraneous. It was desireable, however, to maintain the transparency, refractions & some of the less objectionble reflections to lend the image a feel of glass forms.
The final file was built in layers and colors were selectively tweaked to match previous images. |

This couple wanted to send wedding photos as part of their thank-you notes to guests. They also wanted to look their best. They asked me to retouch several of the shots so as to be more flattering.
The task in this shot called for slimming down cheeks and throats, reducing the depth of creases in the skin, clearing a few blemishes and removing the stray lock on the groom's forehead. The bride's dress was improved to a better fit. In all of the images treated, it was important to avoid heavy-handedness and obvious manipulations. The couple's appearance was enhanced without overt changes that would be noted by friends and family. |

This image required removal of the younger couple and the cake to leave an image of the remaining couple, side-by-side, behind the table with candles. The gentleman required that a full left arm and hand be developed or built and the woman's dress and bouquet were extended to meet and fall behind them.
This work was comissioned as a gift for family around Christmas. Deliverables included high- and medium-resolution TIFs and a web-suitable JPEG. |

This old tintype photograph had seen better days. It was bent, scratched and otherwise aged, as well as being hastily cut, and its corners snipped.
Restoration involved retouching the numerous blemishes apparent in a high-resolution scan and rebuilding missing portions of the image. A slight adjustment in contrast brought the image into greater clarity. The biggest challenge was presented by the missing data in the left corners. These had to be artificially constructed to match other details that were present, such as photographic grain, coating of emulsion (across bottom), and background tones/lighting. The final image keeps close proximity with all the visual aspects of the original tintype, thus preserving a historical feel while allowing a clearer look at details. The photo is no longer one-of-a-kind. It can now be reproduced. |
